Rebel Kayaks
Greenland style kayaks

The Rebel Ilaga signifies Johan Wirsén

The story

Behind Rebel Kayaks is the kayak designer Johan Wirsén and Aquarius sea kayaks manufacturer. Johan Wirsén is today one of the most recognized kayak designers and also a sea kayak enthusiast. He designs and builds kayaks that he likes to paddle himself. The idea for Rebel Kayaks is to connect design with skilled employees. Workers that have the knowledge and feeling for the materials that they work with. In Johan Wirséns current kayak designs he concentrate on the thought of how strong we are as a paddler, and I try to make a kayak as fast as possible in the low speed area, let say in 3 – 4 pound drag area; because this is where most of us ordinary paddlers fit with our “touring sea kayaks”. After years of designing and working for other manufacturers, he decided that it was time to launch his own brand: Rebel Kayaks. A single expression of Rebel Kayaks is well build Greenland style kayaks. A brand of high end sea kayaks for demanding paddlers.

The kayaks

The Naja, the Ilaga, the Greenland T, the Husky, the Gnarly, the Jara and the TOC, all kayak names to remember. Kayaks known as the originals: Ilaga and Greenland T. Iconic and beautiful kayaks. Kayaks for any need: Speed, rolling, stability and touring.

Rebel Husky

The Rebel Kayaks Husky is a real playboat for those under 90 kg. Husky is a light and fast kayak with the low profile it also great for rolling. Designer Johan Wirsén's inspiration to name the kayak is the sled dog Husky, known to be playful, hard working and friendly. Just like this kayak. Johan explains that one of his first "Greenland style" kayaks was called Husky, and this model is the 5th or 6th edition of the original kayak. Now, with another deck layout and an improved bottom shape. The latter gives a considerably greater maneuverability and precisely control, speed and comfort are characteristic of the kayaks. Spring, symmetrical hull shape, hard knee pant and flat v-shaped bottom make Husky a real playmate. When you add some load, it becomes a great working dog for multi-day trips. A larger version of the Husky is the Gnarly Dog kayak.

Rebel Ilaga

Ilaga in Greenlandic means “friend”. It's my friend and favorite (Editor). The Ilaga was designed by Johan Wirsén in 2008 and inspired by the original Western Greenland kayaks, giving it the distinctive and beautiful lines which already made it a classic. The bottom of the kayak with light V-shape, markedly cranked and cooled, makes it highly maneuverable and reacts efficiently to edging and steering, yet surprisingly directional, especially when it's praise. The low tire makes you really in touch when sitting in the kayak, and can use the body optimally to work with roll and technique. It has relatively high both primary and secondary stability compared to the only 50 cm width and is great on the water. A new fiber backrest that can tilt and not get in the way when you lean backwards in a roll, at the same time it forms a small space behind the seat where you can store equipment. In addition, the extra elastics on respectively. front and rear tires that make it easier to place a storm yard or backpack. The Ilaga is a wonderful kayak for the advanced sea rider or the ambitious beginner for Greenlandic roles and techniques. The Ilaga have a smaller little sister, the Rebel Naja.

Rebel Greenland T

The Rebel Greenland T is the original Touring Greenland kayak designed by Johan Wirsén. The idea was to create a Greenland kayak with the same elegant lines and good qualities. like the smaller Rebel Ilaga, but with more space - a larger keyhole cockpit allows easy entry and exit, and a large oval packing hatch and a day hatch behind the cockpit for more storage. The bottom of the kayak with light V-shape, markedly cranked and cooled, makes it highly maneuverable and reacts efficiently to edging and steering, yet surprisingly directional, especially when it's praise. The low tire and the built-in thigh supports provide good contact when sitting in the kayak, and there is room to use the body optimally when working with roll and technique. It has relatively high both primary and secondary stability compared to the only 52 cm width and is great on the water. A new fiber backrest that can tilt and not get in the way as you lean backwards in a roll, at the same time it forms a small space behind the seat where you can store equipment. In addition, it has extra elasticity on the rear tire, which makes it easier to place a storm yard or backpack. A variation of the Greenland T is the Rebel TOC, a Greenland T with a ocean coaming.

Rebel Jara

The Jara is first and foremost a sea touring kayak. A relatively straight line and long waterline provide good sliding and good directional stability. The Jara comes in two sizes, LV and HV, depending on your needs, or how much gear you want to carry. Both the Jara LV and Jara HV have the same Swedeform shaped hull with a hard chin and smooth bow shape, which gracefully cuts through the water. The greater volume in the rear also makes it easy to catch the surf and gain a lot of speed downwind. It’s also easy to roll, with the low deck. Designed as a skeg-boat, but if you prefer a rudder it will also respond well. It also features a hard chinned shallow V-shaped hull. It has the same deck layout as on the Rebel Kayaks “Husky” and “Gnarly Dog” with multiple decklines and 4 hatches that make it easy to pack.
